U.S. Government Approves Safeguards on China - May 14 , 2005

The U.S. government approved three safeguard cases against China today
covering tops/shirts, trousers, and underwear/sleepwear. <338/339 – 347/348 – 352/652>

"This is a victory for the Istanbul Declaration Coalition and textile apparel producing countries"

“Chinese textile and apparel exports to the European Union are up by record levels as well.
The governments of France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and others are right to press the E.U. to impose safeguards
on Chinese imports as quickly as possible,” said Ziya Sukun, President of ITKIB Association USA.

"Global textile crisis is too important to textile and apparel producing nations for the WTO to ignore”

U.S. Government Approves Four More Safeguards - May 18, 2005

The U.S. government approved four additional safeguard cases against China today.
New safeguards cover man-made fiber shirts, woven shirts, man-made trousers, and combed cotton yarn.

The Istanbul Declaration Coalition applauds decision by the White House
to impose additional Safeguards on Chinese Textiles.
"This action by the U.S. Administration provides the global textile producing nations an opportunity
to adjust to the current unfair and extreme environment created by China”
